Basil Essential Oil is steam distilled from the leaves of the Basil herb, a member of the Mint family that is also referred to as Sweet Basil, Great Basil, Joy of the Mountain, and Saint Joseph's Wort. Basil Oil has a thin consistency and ranges from colorless to pale amber in appearance. With a sweet, herbaceous, spicy, and slightly camphoraceous aroma, Basil Oil is a strong top note known to have a warming, clarifying, and strengthening effect on the senses.
Its fresh and light yet crisp and lasting scent carries a balsamic woody undertone reminiscent of Aniseed Essential Oil. It is reputed to have a tonic effect that energizes the body, uplifts and stabilizes the mood, and enhances concentration. With anti-microbial, anti-viral, and antioxidant properties, Basil Essential Oil is reputed to effectively ease respiratory complaints, such as congestion and infections. Furthermore, it is known to be ideal for addressing the discomforts of menstruation, allergies, and indigestion. Its cleansing and clearing effects are known to promote the expulsion of toxins and pollutants while its refreshing effects are known to soothe irritation and inflammation.
