The citrus scent of Bergamot Oil is sweet, fruity, and floral with hints of warm spice suggestive of Neroli. Used in aromatherapy, this oil is reputed to enhance mood, help lift negative feelings, enhance feelings of mental energy and help maintain healthy circulation. It is also reputed to enhance feelings of relaxation and calm. This comforting effect is thought to benefit those who suffer from high blood pressure, feelings of depression, and sleeplessness. It is also believed to help manage feelings of discomfort when dealing with aches and pains, stress, and anxiety.
Used cosmetically, Bergamot Essential Oil is reputed to help balance the skin tone, reduce the appearance of scars, and improve the appearance of blemishes, thereby promoting a rejuvenated appearance. This makes it a popular ingredient in moisturizers and soaps. Its refreshing citrus fragrance helps to reduce the potency of unpleasant scents, which makes Bergamot Oil an ideal ingredient in deodorants as well as room sprays. It is also reputed to be purifying, and to help manage feelings of discomfort from symptoms of colds, flu, and asthma.
Quick and easy recipes:
Massage blend: For a massage oil that is reputed to help promote feelings of relaxation and help maintain healthy immune function, dilute 2-3 drops of Bergamot Oil in 1 cup of preferred carrier oil. Suggested oils include Olive, Jojoba, Coconut, Grapeseed, and Sweet Almond. This blend can be further enriched with other essential oils that are known to be warming and to promote feelings of calm and comfort such as Lavender, Myrrh, and Patchouli. For a blend to promote feelings of vigor, Bergamot Oil can be combined with other essential oils that have fruity, floral, or refreshing scents, such as Orange, Ylang Ylang, and Clary Sage.
Diffuser blend: For a diffuser recipe that is said to promote mental clarity, enhance concentration, and encourage enthusiasm, combine 3 drops of Bergamot Oil with a total of 4 drops of essential oils that are reputed to enhance feelings of relaxation. Suggested oils include Lavender, Rosemary, and Clary Sage. Simply add this blend to a diffuser of personal choice.
Bath blend: For a bath blend that is believed to help enhance feelings of relaxation, manage feelings of stress, and improve a negative mood, first combine 1 cup each of Sea Salts and Epsom Salts in a glass bowl. To this, add ¼ cup of Baking Soda and 60 ml of 1-2 preferred Carrier Oils. Next, add 6 drops of Bergamot Essential Oil. It can also be combined with a total of 15 drops of other oils with comforting scents, such as Vetiver and Frankincense. Thoroughly combine all the ingredients, then spoon ¼ -1 cup of the bath blend into a full bathtub of warm water. Before entering the bath, ensure that the salts have completely dissolved.
Caution:
This product is for external use only. Use well diluted. Citrus oils may contain phototoxic properties and it is suggested to avoid exposure to the sun after application to the skin. For topical application, a skin test is recommended prior to use. Avoid contact with eyes. If pregnant or on medication, consult a health-care practitioner before using.
