Botanical name: Citrus limonum
Country of origin: Italy
Lemon Oil, also known as “Liquid Sunshine” for its brightening effect on the mind, has come to be recognized for its ability to enhance focus and spiritual consciousness. It's cheerful, clarifying scent blends well with the essential oils of other citrus fruits that are known for having concentration-enhancing abilities, such as Orange, Lime, Mandarin, and Bergamot, as well as with other comforting oils, including Lavender, Rose, Sandalwood, Peppermint, Geranium, and Tea Tree. The brightening and balancing effects of Lemon Oil are not only limited to the mood, as it also helps to diminish the appearance of blemishes on the skin by regulating oil production and by encouraging the growth of new skin to replace dull cells, which in turn helps bring out the skin’s natural radiance.
With a natural purifying ability, invigorating quality, and immunity-enhancing potential, Lemon Oil is reputed to help detoxify the body and thus address fatigue, symptoms of colds and infections, skin conditions, breathing difficulties, digestive complaints, and weight issues. Combined with its antibacterial property, its circulation-stimulating property promotes the body’s protective ability to guard against or eliminate harmful bacteria, while its decongestant property makes it an ideal agent for clearing the respiratory tract of congestion in order to allow for easier breathing. If you need an oil that helps chase away the sadness and stress and puts you in a more positive headspace, look no further than Lemon Essential Oil.
Quick and easy recipes:
Massage blend: For a revitalizing yet calming massage oil that helps lift the mind out of negativity and tiredness, dilute 12 drops Lemon Essential Oil in 30 ml (1 fl. oz.) of a preferred carrier oil. This blend is reputed to stimulate and enhance the circulation, increase energy levels, and facilitate the body’s expulsion of toxins.
For a simpler blend, mix 4 drops of Anise Star Essential Oil with equal parts of a carrier oil of personal preference, and massage this into the preferred or affected areas of the body to soothe pain, prevent sepsis in wounds, stimulate the appetite, ease nervousness, arouse a sensual mood, detoxify, or prevent and soothe insect bites.
Diffuser blend: To relieve the body of anxiety, nervous tension, and exhaustion, dilute and diffuse 5 drops of Lemon Essential Oil in a diffuser of personal preference. This helps to ease nausea, soothe a cough or a sore throat, enhance immune function, and ease symptoms of allergies. It is also ideal for diffusing during times when increased concentration is required, such as during study periods.
Bath blend: For a bath oil blend that cleanses to eliminate harmful bacteria while also promoting the appearance of smoother, softer, more refined skin, dilute 5 drops of Lemon Essential Oil in 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of carrier oil and ½ cup of Epsom Salts, then add the blend to a warm bath. Alternatively, Lemon Essential Oil may be diluted in a castile soap before being added to bath water. This simple method is known to ease pain and tension, energize the body and mood, relieve digestive discomfort, and reduce cramping.
