Botanical name: Citrus reticulata
Country of origin: Brazil
Closely related to the Mandarin tree, the Tangerine tree produces cream-colored flowers and small orange fruits. With a sweet, tangy aroma, the Tangerine tree was originally native to China, but is now grown predominantly in the United States and Sicily. An excellent oil to help uplift the spirit and bring about a sense of security, Tangerine is also rich in the powerful antioxidant d-limonene.
Cold pressed from the peel, it is a pale yellow to golden yellow liquid. Tangerine Oil has the typical citrus scent – fresh, radiant, and tangy sweet, and with only subtle differences, it smells a lot like Mandarin, with some even considering them identical.
Quick and easy recipes:
Like most of the citrus family, the Tangerine can be depended upon for its refreshing and rejuvenating characteristics. It is believed to have the following properties: antispasmodic, carminative, digestive, diuretic, sedative, stimulant (digestive and lymphatic), and tonic.
Its aroma clears the mind and can help to eliminate emotional confusion. Aromatherapists consider it to be very comforting, soothing and warming oil.
To relieve depression, vaporize 4 drops Tangerine and 2 drops Geranium.
To lighten mental overload, take a bath with 4 drops Mandarin and 2 drops Ylang Ylang.
