Botanical name: Cymbopogon winterianus
Country of origin: Indonesia
Native to Sri Lanka, this lemon-scented grass is a close relative of Lemongrass and Palmarosa. It is extracted from a resilient grass native to Sri Lanka and Java. In traditional Sri Lankan medicine, crushed leaves were used to heal wounds.
Citronella's lovely, soothing scent has been appreciated throughout history, and it is once again becoming a product of choice for health-conscious customers.
Steamed- distilled from leaves, it has a well-rounded lemon citrus scent, though it is much softer than actual Lemon. Citronella also has a subtle woody nuance.
Quick and easy recipes:
Citronella Essential Oil is credited with having beneficial aromatic properties and most people will associate it with its delightful scent. It is often used in combination with Cedarwood to produce pleasant-smelling patio candles and torches that help create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Citronella is also used in smaller amounts in deodorants, and in products for oily skin and hair.
For a bath blend to promote feelings of alertness and energy, dilute 2 drops Citronella and 4 drops Myrtle Essential Oil in a preferred carrier oil and add to a warm bath. This blend is reputed to help manage feelings of physical exhaustion by imparting a reinvigorated mood.
This product is for external use only. Use well diluted. For topical application, a skin test is recommended prior to use. Avoid contact with eyes. If pregnant or on medication, consult a health-care practitioner before using.
